A web app for a popular AI conference (conducted in New York, with attendees from around the world) uses a signup/login page before users can access their dashboard. The signup/login page uses a form for users to input details and submit. The details are then sent to the backend service for processing. All user actions are logged in a log server. Senior Frontend Engineer, Musk, observed patterns in the issues users are facing with the the web app. Here are the two common patterns that Musk observed in the issues that have been occurring for most users:

Which of the following should Musk do to enhance the user experience with the page?

A: Implement validation using JS event listeners on client-side (e.g., on input or change)
B: Utilize HTML5 built-in form validation attributes (e.g., required, pattern)
C: Use server-side validation and refresh the page on form submission
D: Use a serverless function that processes the user’s form details, saves the user’s entries in the database and responds with validation data

A senior front-end engineer is tasked with optimizing the loading speed of a web application. The current bottleneck is the large number of JavaScript files that must be downloaded before the application becomes interactive. The engineer noticed that the browser spends a lot of time parsing and executing the JS code before making the application interactive. Which of the following techniques should the engineer apply to address this issue?

Registration Queue

Solve
We want to register students for the next semester. All students have a receipt which shows the amount pending for the previous semester. A positive amount (or zero) represents that the student has paid extra fees, and a negative amount represents that they have pending fees to be paid. The students are in a queue for the registration. We want to arrange the students in a way such that the students who have a positive amount on the receipt get registered first as compared to the students who have a negative amount. We are given a queue in the form of an array containing the pending amount.
For example, if the initial queue is [20, 70, -40, 30, -10], then the final queue will be [20, 70, 30, -40, -10]. Note that the sequence of students should not be changed while arranging them unless required to meet the condition.
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Note:
- The first line of the input is the length of the array. The second line contains all the elements of the array.
- The input is already parsed into an array of "strings" and passed to a function. You will need to convert string to integer/number type inside the function.
- You need to "print" the final result (not return it) to pass the test cases.

For the example discussed above, the input will be:
5
20 70 -40 30 -10

Your code needs to print the following to the standard output:
20 70 30 -40 -10

Visitors Count
Strings
Logic
Solve
A manager hires a staff member to keep a record of the number of men, women, and children visiting the museum daily. The staff will note W if any women visit, M for men, and C for children. You need to write code that takes the string that represents the visits and prints the count of men, woman and children. The sequencing should be in decreasing order.
Example:

Input:
WWMMWWCCC

Expected Output:
4W3C2M

Explanation:
‘W’ has the highest count, then ‘C’, then ‘M’.
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Note:
- The input is already parsed and passed to a function.
- You need to "print" the final result (not return it) to pass the test cases.
- If the input is- “MMW”, then the expected output is "2M1W" since there is no ‘C’.
- If any of them have the same count, the output should follow this order - M, W, C.

Test candidates on core Front End Developer Hiring Test topics

HTML: HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is the standard markup language used to create the structure and content of web pages. HTML is essential for front-end developers as it serves as the foundation of websites and allows for the proper organization and presentation of information.

CSS: CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. It is a style sheet language used for describing the look and formatting of a document written in HTML. CSS enables front-end developers to control the visual appearance of web pages, including layout, colors, fonts, and animations.

JavaScript: JavaScript is a programming language primarily used for web development. It allows for the implementation of interactive elements, dynamic content, and advanced functionalities on websites. Measuring JavaScript skills in the test is crucial to assess a candidate's ability to create engaging and interactive user experiences.

Responsive Design: Responsive design is an approach to web development that ensures web pages render well on a variety of devices and screen sizes. It involves designing and coding websites to be adaptable and provide optimal user experience, regardless of the device being used. Evaluating a candidate's understanding of responsive design is important as it reflects their ability to create user-friendly and accessible websites.

UI/UX: UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) refer to the visual elements and overall experience of using a website or an application. Evaluating a candidate's knowledge of UI and UX principles is important as it determines their ability to design user-friendly interfaces and optimize user interactions with the product.

Git: Git is a distributed version control system used for tracking changes in code during software development. It allows developers to collaborate, manage different versions of the project, and easily perform rollbacks or merges. Including Git in the test is essential as it assesses a candidate's proficiency in using a widely used and industry-standard tool for code management.

Debugging: Debugging is the process of identifying and fixing errors or defects in a software program. It involves analyzing code, tracing the execution flow, and troubleshooting issues to ensure the program functions as intended. Evaluating a candidate's debugging skills is important as it demonstrates their ability to identify and resolve issues in the codebase and ensures the production of high-quality software.

Performance Optimization: Performance optimization involves improving the speed, responsiveness, and efficiency of a website or application. By optimizing code, minimizing network requests, and enhancing caching strategies, front-end developers can enhance user experience and reduce load times. Including performance optimization in the assessment allows recruiters to gauge a candidate's proficiency in optimizing web assets for optimal performance.

Can I combine multiple skills into one test?

Yes, absolutely. Custom assessments are set up based on your job description, and will include questions on all must-have skills you specify. Here's a quick guide on how you can request a custom test.

What roles can I use the Front End Developer Test for?

Here are few roles for which we recommend this test:

  • Front End Developer
  • Web Developer
  • UI Developer
  • Front End Designer
  • JavaScript Developer
  • Front End Engineer
  • Web Designer
  • UI Engineer
  • UI/UX Developer
Can I see a sample test, or do you have a free trial?

Yes!

The free trial includes one sample technical test (Java/ JavaScript) and one sample aptitude test that you will find in your dashboard when you sign up. You can use it to review the quality of questions and the candidate experience of giving a test on Adaface.

You can preview any of the 500+ tests and see the sample questions to decide if it would be a good fit for your requirements.

How do I interpret test scores?

The primary thing to keep in mind is that an assessment is an elimination tool, not a selection tool. A skills assessment is optimized to help you eliminate candidates who are not technically qualified for the role, it is not optimized to help you find the best candidate for the role. So the ideal way to use an assessment is to decide a threshold score (typically 55%, we help you benchmark) and invite all candidates who score above the threshold for the next rounds of interview.

I'm a candidate. Can I try a practice test?

No. Unfortunately, we do not support practice tests at the moment. However, you can use our sample questions for practice.
