System Expert Responsibilities

  • Keep track of and manage all installed systems and infrastructure
  • Install, setup, test, and support operating systems, application software, and system management tools
  • Configuration, installation, testing, and upkeep of operating systems, application software, and system management tools
  • Evaluate current systems and give technical guidance to IT support personnel
  • Supervise the creation of customized software and hardware requirements
  • Plan and execute system automation as needed to improve efficiency
  • Create and develop the security system in place to ensure data security
  • Ensure that technical resources are always available
  • Keep track of and manage the inventory
  • Timely log sheet reporting for quick reaction to any issues

System Expert Requirements & Skills

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux environments
  • Extensive knowledge of application stack administration and performance optimization (e.g., Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, Ruby, NGINX)
  • Excellent cloud experience, ideally in AWS
  • Knowledge of virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box)
  • Knowledge of monitoring systems
  • Working knowledge of automation software (e.g., Puppet, cfengine, Chef)
  • Proven scripting abilities (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python)
  • Thorough understanding of networking (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
